Akagera National Park

The Akagera National Park lies in the east where the countryside gives way to savannah & clusters of acacia mingled with open grassland. The landscape is dominated by a labyrinth of swamps & lakes that follow the meandering course of the Akagera river. Large mammal spps here include Elephant, Buffalo, Impala, Hippo, Eland & Tsessebe, Lion, Leopard & Hyaena.

It is a birders’ paradise and the elusive treasure here is the extraordinary Shoebill Stork, together with the endangered & exquisite Papyrus Gonolek.
